Merry Christmas & Counting

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!

My blog is kind stagnant for a while due to increasingly tight schedule day & night. Well, I'll try to fill up as much as I can whenever I can. It's the time of the year again we look back & review ourselves. Have we been naughty/nice? Somewhere in between? Some might say, Jas, you always talk about "looking ahead, moving forward" & now you talk about "flashing back". Not exactly, well, we look back to enjoy the chocolaty sweet memories & learn from the mistakes that we've done to improve our health (being happy about the memories) & improve our life (learning not to repeat the mistakes).

To me, my year has been a tough & rough one (I believe everyone else year was.) but thank God I made it though the hills & waves. STPM was kinda good preparation before university. Here, I encourage those thinking about it to try it with a promise that you'll work very hard throughout the course. From here, I wish those awaiting for result all the best! Like I said, this is just the beginning, be prepared.

Just Begun

Everyone cheered once invigilator announced the end of the exam. This is the moment everyone is talking about. Phone calling, chatting like never before, photo snapping, rushing for movies, etc. Celebration. Well, congrats to everyone & thank God for keeping us strong all the while.

This is just the end of intro chapter. The story has just begun. A new beginning is unfolding ahead. Be ever-ready.

So is my blog, a new chapter is being written. Stay tuned.

Final Countdown

2 years of work will be put to test next week. So, I specially wish all SPM & STPM candidates all the very best & good luck. May God bless. My Chem teacher had a dream about a question on colour formation of d-block elements. Cover that (just so in case). Good luck!

It's Goodbye...

I've counted the times,
7 years as I watch time flies;
pain & gain seen through my eyes,
in all the years of MBS & I.

It's now time to say my last goodbye,
I say I'm not gonna cry but I hate to lie,
we never appreciate the things till it's gone,
we never realise the time till it's passed;
Looking back behind, a picture
that seemed to be painted just so yesterday.

Time & time I flip Excelsior,
seeing familiar faces & the jokes we pulled;
It's the past but never gone,
It'll always be in my heart;
I've left MBS now,
but for always, MBS will be in me.
A place I grew up,
a place I learned what's right & what's life,
a home with friends I'll cherish in my life,
I love you, MBS for all my life.

I'm always proud to say I'm MBSian & even prouder that I've met MBS who taken care of me more than I can ever return. I love you, MBS. You're a true premier educational institute.

More Info On "Hmm..."

Well, it looks like the little food experiment is becoming a popular experiment among consumers.

"The burger that wouldn't die

There is a legend. The legend of McDonald's burgers that don't decompose. For years, it's been accepted as a disturbing fact. But a new study conducted by a curious consumer shows that it's not just meat from Mickey D's that stays oddly "fresh." The study put several different burgers of the same size (but from different places) next to each other and then left them alone. None of the burgers rotted, which led the experimenter to conclude that "there's nothing that strange about a McDonald's burger not rotting." Score one public relations point for Ronald and company."

Qantas's Airbus Incident

Yesterday was the very first time a major incident involving a flagship of cutting-edge Airbus A380 since it entered service in 2007. It was a routine flight from Singapore to Sydney ferrying 433 passengers when something not routine forced the plane QF32 to dump fuel & re-route back to Singapore Changi Airport.

The engine 2 on the left was blown out 15 minutes after take-off & landed 1 hr 50 min after. Passengers & eye-witnesses reported that they heard explosion & saw metal shards & plane debris falling off the plane. The explosion tore a part of the left wing till wires & foam can be seen by passengers. Experts said the problem appeared to be an "uncontained engine failure," which occurs when turbine debris punctures the engine casing and the light cowling that covers the unit. On the ground, the stricken engine was obviously burned & the rear casing was missing.

However all 433 passengers & 26 crews are uninjured. The crews were very professional in the sense that they're calm when dealing with the situation. The captain came down & said:" Look, we're sorry. As you can gather, 1 of our engine won't turn off but now we're pouring water into it to stop it."

Qantas has immediately ground all 6 of its A380 fleet even though no airworthiness directive mandating a halt the flight of its A380s but Singapore has cleared all its 11 A380s to operate. Airbus, Roll-Royce and Singapore investigators are working round the clock to investigate the mishap. Meanwhile, British Engine maker Roll-Royce urged all operators to perform safety check (Precautionary Technical Check/All Operators Telex) on all its Trent 900 engines. Engine Alliance engines are not concerned.

"The fact that it survived the damage is a credit to the design. Twenty years ago that would probably have taken the aircraft out of the sky," said John Page, senior lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at the University of New South Wales. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce can't say exactly what caused the engine failure that prompted the emergency landing & said a thorough investigation is under way. He mentioned that it is most probably due to material failure or faulty design of the engine.

Still, the incident is likely to raise safety questions about one of the most modern aircraft, which has suffered a series of minor incidents.

In September 2009, a Singapore Airlines A380 was forced to turn around in mid-flight and head back to Paris after an engine malfunction. On March 31, a Qantas A380 with 244 people on board burst two tires on landing in Sydney after a flight from Singapore.

Last August, a Lufthansa crew shut down one of the engines as a precaution before landing at Frankfurt on a flight from Japan, after receiving confusing information on a cockpit indicator.

The other issues with the A380s have all been relatively minor, such as electrical problems, Ballantyne said.

Engine parts seemed to have damaged the wing & white fume are reported being seen during landing.

Class Party of The Year

This class party marks the last year-end party we'll have in this school. More importantly, this would be the last class party before we walk our separate paths & never know when we'll meet again. Well, we're on route to meet a bigger world!

Further Update On "Hmm..."

It has been 7 weeks now & there's still no sign of mould growing (or any chance of growing at all). How strong are the fries?!

Toyota Hybrid

Toyota Prius's Fuel Efficient Hybrid Synergy

Hmm...

Recently I read about an experiment done by an artist whereby a plate of fries and burger was allowed to be untouched for some time to observe its degeneration process. Surprisingly, after "some time" (6 months), the plate of fast food dried & harden but its colour & texture remained almost the same as before. The surprising part was- it has no mould growing on it.

I was a little skeptic about it but just recently, Isaac posted a photo of fries he has kept for 4 weeks & it looked fine, just a little dehydrated. It has no mould growing on it & the smell is still there.

Shocking?! Now, you may ask, what is used to make it & how?

Winner of China's Got Talent, Winner of Life- Liu Wei

The winner of China's Got Talent finalist 2010 is a 22 year old talent that has lost a part of his body but since then he has gained much much more in the heart. He is no other than Liu Wei. He has won the competition with the song "You're Beautiful". He started playing piano in 19 & made it to the stage light in 22. Round of applause! I'm amazed by your will!

Liu Wei's quotes:

"To me, there are 3 things can not be missed in life - air, water and music."

"There are only 2 paths in my life for me - either to die as fast as possible, or to live as brilliant a life as I could."

"I don't feel that I am that different from other people. Normally everyone is used to do everything with one's hands so your hands are more flexible. There is no rule saying that you can't do things with your feet."

"A man should be responsible to his dreams. My dream is to become a great musician."

"I know if I want to do it better than other people, I have to put in more efforts"

On the note he wrote on the paper in this clip, it says'"
Walk on, at least I have a pair of perfect legs."

You're an inspiration, a role model.

Interbrand Updates

Just only, there's a latest updates on the global brands. Not surprise to know Coca-cola still standing firmly on No. 1 for 11 consecutive years. Technology (Electronics) shined. Top 2, 3, 4, 7 & 8 are IBM, Microsoft, Google, Intel & Nokia. Apple climbed to No. 17 while Mc. Donald's, the only food brand is in the top 10 (No. 6).

Apple has soared all the way up but BP has plummet out of Top 100 list. Analysts, Frampton said the biggest reason why BP is dropped out of the list mainly is because it has not reacted well & not giving a direction & vision to everyone after the spill. On the other hand, Toyata & car brand from China & India are growing stronger.

The Last Chapter Of F6

Well, 2 weeks holidays have came to an end. I still not quite satisfy with my effort to make full use of it. So, next is trial exam. Will try to do well this time. 1 month and it'll be STPM. Flashback & you can realise time sometimes flies and sometimes slows down. Like Einstein said, time is relative. Hope to get into a good university with a course of my choice. So, lets finish writing it with hard work.

I was a little overly amazed when I watch Jackie Evancho singing like an opera singer in America's Got Talent. People got to see that. Jackie is just 10 years old & has an impressive voice. The judge said they've found the gem/star.

Joke Of The Day

Teacher: Do you feel more hungry when you see someone else eating?

Student: Not really. Why?

Teacher: Don't lie. Say it.

Student: (Laugh quietly)

Teacher: Do you know it's in your Bio syllabus, it's called the P... (I didn't hear it clearly so P...) theory. You know... similarly when the dog see the bone.

(Students starring at him blankly not understanding the theory.)

Teacher: When you see food, your stomach and your brain will... What the heck, don't tell me you all don't know about it. It's general knowledge. Bio students should know it. What you all know?

Students: (Laugh)

Teacher: I've foreign students who are intelligent and they ask lots of intelligent questions. They always come to me. They ask like why have to be dot product and not cross product or alternatives. Malaysian students keep quieeeeet only. Why?

Teacher: Or you know what Malaysian student asked me? They asked me whether can I write integration sign smaller?!

Students: (Laugh)

Life

Life
Some think it's a piece of story a person pen till his ink dry out,
Some think it's an art a person paint with the colours of his experiences in life,
Some think it's an exploration & learning all as the person go till his breathe goes out,
Some think it's a competition & strive to be the best of the best till the heart stops beating,
I think the sense of curiosity, never stop learning & keep moving spirit is life,
Life.

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Happy 53rd Kemerdekaan, Malaysia & Happy 1Malaysia!!!

We're enjoying the fruits of our fore-fathers' labour. I never forget what Pn. Lim said "Pokok yang teduh itu merupakan titik peluh orang yang menanamnya lama dahulu, kamu mesti menghargainya." Let our spirit fill with the colours of Jalur Gemilang. National TV should feature more of the Independence Day celebration but there is not even a single channel showing live telecast of any celebration even I try looking for it. Come on RTM! It is kinda quiet last year & this year. No deployment of fighter jets or helicopters with flags. Come on! Light up the spirit of Merdeka~lah.

Extraordinary Musician

Liu Wei is a talented pianist except he plays with his feet. Liu Wei says "Things that normal people uses arms to do, I'll use my feet. Things that I resolute to do, I'll be determined to do it till I succeed."

To me, he is an exceptional person. He just performed in China's Got Talent in August. The adjudicator asked him how he could do it, he replied by saying that he has 2 paths: either die or live colourfully. No one stipulates that piano has to be played by hands.

Under The Weather

I'm under the weather. Upper respiratory tract infection (nasal cavity inflammation). Yesterday, I had chill & shivered to my bones. Muscle ached & giddy. Today, after medication, I'm getting much better. Just as I thought I have escaped teachers' constant nagging for homework for a day, my head still constantly telling myself that STPM is just ahead.

Donate Blood Save Life

Every volunteer was a little excited & nervous at the same time. Most of them had butterfly in their stomach donating their blood for the first time but it was indeed fun & meaningful. First stop, the medical technicians did some qualitative test to screen those who have decided to donate their blood. Thank God I'm well & healthy. Glad to be a universal donor for red cell transfusion (O). So far, only Chei Tai is a universal donor for plasma transfusion, he's an universal recipient (AB).

Just in 15min, 1 pint (450ml) of blood is filled into the plastic bag. This was indeed an interesting experience. I also got a record book & there are 112 columns. I wonder can a person donate so many times before he/she reaches 60 years old?

Life Wisdom

"If we're unwilling to change, we'll never move forward." That's what I believe.
I'm pretty sure there'll be tough time ahead. Waves that we need to huddle through even when it push us to the ground, harsh weather we have to survive even when it freeze us to our bone, burden we must prevail even when it surmount us more than we could take. With His light, I'll make it, we'll make it.

ISS Cooling System Breakdown

The International Space Station's cooling system has broke down forcing NASA to arrange an urgent repair. 2 flight engineers were unable to remove the malfunctioning ammonia pump in their first EVA but they succeeded removing the pump by a little hammering & disconnecting the circuit wires in their second EVA after 7 hours & 26 min (It's quite long to fix an air-conditioning unit. Well, it's probably one of the toughest job to do. Imagine, it's already difficult to hold a pen & write in the space suit, what more fix a coolant pump while constantly checking everything including yourself is not leaving the space station. It's a challenging job.) Third spacewalk is scheduled on 16th August to replace the faulty pump.

Last F6 Chem Experiment & Presentation

My last Chemistry experiment for F6.

*Interesting experiment, cooperative team, colourful results, last experiment.

*Note: Concentrated sulphuric acid is used. Explosions, melting, flaming and release of colourful gas cloud are normal part of our experiment as long as the Chemistry lab is still intact (Just kidding, people).

Chemistry Presentation: Environmental Pollution & Solutions.

Mun Hong did pretty well.

United We Learn

An old Chinese man solemnly paddles the bicycle with newspaper unsteadily.

Before sky-scrappers challenge each other to touch the clouds, "kopitiam" was a morning hang-out. We learn.

Before cars run on the road, bullet trains zoom on the tracks, planes soar across the sky above. We learn.

During Japanese's Occupation, houses destroyed, people suffered, livelihood perished, peace annihilated, blood sank deep underground, dug with the bare hands were potatoes to satisfy the never-filled stomach. We learn.

Pearl Harbour attacked, A-bombs dropped in Hiroshima, British colony reinstated Malayan. Just as hope seemed to fade away, Tunku Abdul Rahman & his fellow supporters stood up. We learn.

Our country earned our independence. He witnessed a new generation rose up & standing on their own feet for the first time together with Tun Hussein Onn to fix the racial issues that plagued the country. We learn.

2 giant monuments forming the Petronas Twin Tower in 5 year to the SMART tunnel running under a metropolitan. From steam car to diesel to petrol to LPG to solar & hybrid; from monorail to A330. We learn.

From paper & pen to telegraph to land-lines phones to handphones to Iphone; from analog to digital, we learn.

From Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra to Tun Abdul Razak to Tun Hussein Onn to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad to Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to Dato' Seri Mohd. Najib Abdul Razak; from bapa kemerdakaan to bapa pembangunan to bapa perpaduan to bapa permodenan to bapa pembangunan modal insan to bapa transformasi. We learn.

Everyone needs education. Everyone needs health care. We can make it when we unite. We learn.

I highly recommend a 1 Malaysia inspired movie entitled: 1 Malaysia: Reunion. Watch it in Youtube. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lmqbik1xBpk

We're Learning

Today was 1 of those days I like purely because there was Physics Exam & Chemistry Experiment. It was not just any exam, it was an international Physics competition. It was also not any Chemistry experiment, it was the 1st time in 5 years of Chemistry practical which involved small explosions (or sort of ''>.< ). We saw green flame & heard sparks pricking. Well, it was most probably either oxygen/hydrogen gas released. There were generally about 15 experiments to test. Cool & crazy, mixing, shaking, pouring & heating like 2 mad Chemists. The 4 Physics questions were no doubt mind-twisting but it certainly opened my eyes.

Let the upset thing be a lesson & the happy thing be a blessing. We're forever learning.

Good night, may tomorrow be bright.

Family Day 2010

It was the day we all have been anticipating for a long time. It was none other than the Family Day 2010. Lets take a quick tour of the day.

A beautiful mornin' was how it began,

A long queue at the Paintball range welcomes the day.

Just past 0800 and the crowd has already built up.

With Anson Chee ready for his morning bath. Meanwhile,

in the court, futsal & basketball kicked off.

Over the green, laughter & fun has long cheered up the field. Game on!

Not long later,

Anson was down. Which means Adrian will be up next.

And he was down too, then next up,

Then with familiar snare drum beats, BB made their grant entrance.

Anthony joined Benny in Tequila dance.

After a spectacular performance, it was a group photo.

Followed by Lion Dance performance that surprised many party-goers,

Next up, Mr. Wong joined the fun. Sporting. He too got a bath.

Not to miss some sale of new & reusable items which turned out quite good... sale.

As your eyes can see, the crowd was growing "exponentially" & my phone showed it was just 1200.

After juggling between my class's western food stall, haunted house & touring other stalls around the school, my stomach was still not full partly because the food sold were double the already expensive price.

Before stalls were closed, I got myself a butterfly.

and sis got a heart shape too,

Not far away, Mr. Ramesh got a chance on the paintball gun.

Soon Family Day 2010 was over, it was closing time. Helping out in food stall, haunted house & "DJ studio" (actually it's just school PA system). 1 word: exhausting, but fun.

After tearing, unplugging, cleaning, washing, arranging, demolishing, packing, carrying & some running. Finally done with closing. MBSSKL certainly got the fun, many friends, parents, old boys & girls & old & young couples gave their support. I hope the school raised the fund they need. We did it! Go Forward, MBS!

UK's UCAV

UK has produced a prototype Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle named Taranis. A collaboration of BAE Systems, Roll-Royce, QinetiQ & GE Aviation with MoD and millions of man hours in 3 years has made a giant step forwards in UK's unmanned fast-jet capability. Its stealth ability allows the UCAV to engage in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance & possibly long-range attack. Trials will begin next year. This technology is key to sustaining a strong industrial base and to maintain the UK's leading position as a centre for engineering excellence and innovation.

A Gloomy Day

Today is not my day. I'm under the weather. Injured with a scar after the telematch. Thank God so much I'm safe & fine after some treatment. My "windows of my soul" are very crucial. Thank to some of the fateful buddies for their concern & care. Thanks to the St. John's members at MABA.

While watching an Asian School game between Malaysia & Singapore, I thought sweat was dripping when I realised the liquid is fresh red. Sooner, a quarter of my face is drenched with blood & bleeding is profuse. A Melaka national player was as panic as I was. Some survival skills kicked in, applying high pressure on the wound temporarily stopped it. After it reduced significantly, I was led to St. John's where an officer & 3 seniors helped me. I chatted with the officer about stitching while my wound was cleaned. A St. John's member, girl, said I was 可怜(pitiful) and 可爱(cute). I was flattered & melted. Twice. Not every time you get praising. It really brighten my day instantly. Last but not missed, I've Mrs. Gan & her son to thank. They really helped.

Thank you all from my heart. Good night.

Chemist Mix

Yesterday, we had our Chemistry experiment. As usual, I mixed & remixed, dripped, heat, stirred, flushed, filtered, baked like mad chemist with the help of Bann (who knew more what we were doing) & Yem. The experiment was slightly difficult 'cus I didn't really know the compound. As usual, after the experiment, only then I knew >.< "kidding" of course. Here is a picture of Al(C9H6NO)3 which btw is an Alum complex (yellow precipitate).

Another photo of the magnetic stirrer. After exploring the stirrer like a caveman seeing iPod for the first time, I found out that it works the same way like an AC motor.

Before school, it was quiet. During school, it was noisy but in order. After school, classroom became a social meeting place (more of backstage with "interviews, acting, singing") for L6 bro & sis to get their U6 bro & sis's autographs.

Most just hung on a smile for the sake of the signatures (quite obvious) while some were genuine. It really brought back some bittersweet memories. 1 more week & orientation program will be over & it also means we're boiled down to just about 3 months before meltdown. In a blink of an eye, the program that we pending for a month ago is quickly coming to an end. It's time to wrap up & be serious. Seriously.

I'm Back!

I've closed my blog after it went down. I've left but a part of me that loves writing my feelings down is still here so I'm back with a promise of more pictures 'cus I believe pictures paint a million words.

There was an intake for cadet in April. Running it again & again in my mind, I've decided to continue my F6 endeavor. It's no doubt a solid, concrete foundation for me. Besides, with eyes defect, I don't really want to take unnecessary risk. So, it means that I've chosen my path & it also means that I've just less than 3 months before trials & 4 months before meltdown, STPM. Focus!

By the way, MAS has no plans to cancel the purchase of 6 A380s meanwhile aviation analysts said MAS will do just as fine with the use of B787s. However, looking at the duration of delivery, A380s seemed to be a better choice even though its delivery date has been deferred several times. Imagine you're in a line buying food & it's a long line then all the time people are coming, suddenly you change your mind & change to the next line. Now, you're further away. This also tells you how fast airline industry is growing & how competitive between aircraft manufacturers. More & more & more people & cargo are flying. Like AirAsia always say "Everyone can fly" but now, I believe it should be "Everything can fly"!
